The annual youth poetry slam festival of the state of Massachusetts where young people come together across racial, socio-economic and geographical difference to share a stage and support each other in this poetic competition where “the points are not the point, the point is the poetry!”
MassLEAP poets and teaching artists have engaged with thousands of youth throughout Massachusetts. From assembly performances to year long intensive residencies, we will work with your school or youth organization to develop a program that best serves your needs.
MassLEAP has a yearlong professional development program for teaching artists and in-school educators. Additionally, we can work with your school, organization or group to develop spoken word professional development programs tailored to your communities needs.
In collaboration with Books of Hope, "If You Feel It" Open Mic Movement & House Slam Boston, Mass LEAP manages the Youth Spoken Word Leaders Program (YSWL) an annual cohort of 5 teens who receive paid internships, mentorship & training in development and management of a youth lead writing workshop & open mic series at Mass LEAP's offices in Boston's South End. (1st & 3rd Wednesdays during the school year, 549 Columbus Avenue, Boston)
In collaboration with House Slam Boston, Mass LEAP co-sponsors Yung House Slam, a new youth poetry slam & open mic series, managed by YSWL & Brave New Voices Team alumni. (1st & 3rd Wednesdays, Haley House Cage, Roxbury)
